|
| The great room of Deer Chase was originally
designed, cut and displayed at timber frame shows.
This room is twenty-four foot by twenty- four foot
study in compound- joinery is cut of Eastern White
Pine, it features crossed king posts with a
spectacular center pendant. The view towards the
west in the great room offers a panoramic view of
the Great Smoky Mountains. The paneling in the great
room is of spalted silver maple, the hardwood floors
and window trim in the great room are walnut. |
|
 |
| The great room is joined to the two story,
twenty-four foot by forty-eight foot section of the
timber frame home by a compound joinery 'arm'. This
arm of the timber frame serves as the main entrance
and dining area of Deer Chase. |
| The entry and dining area feature paneling
of sycamore and hardwood flooring of spalted
sycamore. One can exit from the dining area through
French doors to the flagstone patio, where you will
find a small water fall. |
|
 |
The kitchen, aka 'the heart of the home'
features simple white cabinetry topped with granite
counter tops, named 'green galaxy'. The appliances,
six burner stove with griddle and two ovens,
refrigerator over freezer, separate ice maker, and
dishwasher are all stainless steel.
Off the kitchen is a separate walk-in pantry;
the laundry/mudroom/rear entrance is also off the
kitchen area; and is separated from the kitchen by a
pocket door. |

 |
 |
|
 |
| The two two-story section of the timber
frame is cut of hemlock from Maine. Hemlock from
Maine is a very hard dense wood, it offers some
insect resistance; but is also 'checks' to a greater
degree than Eastern White Pine. This 'checking' does
not alter the natural strength of the wood. The wood
grading done by Cabin Creek Timber Frames at their
beamery in Franklin, N.C., is overseen by Timber
Products Inspection, Inc. of Conyers, Georgia. We
use only wall log 40 and select grades of woods in
our timber frame structures. The wood increases in
strength by 25% as it dries. |

The hall leading the two main floor
bedrooms are paneled in buckeye, the hardwood floor here and
in the bedrooms on this floor are of spalted maple. The
guest bedroom paneling is of birds-eye and fiddle back
spalted red maple. The master bedroom suite is paneled in
spalted beech. The cabinetry in the master bath is stained
pine, and is topped with granite through which Mother Nature
has sprinkled garnets. In years past Tiffany Jewelry
Company mined garnets and rubies for their jewelry stores
here in Macon County, N.C.
 |
| In the entry area on the main floor before
one gets to the dinning room is the spiral stair
case to the second floor. The spiral stairs were
constructed in the beamery here in Franklin, N.C.
and trial fitted and erected on-site. The spiral
stairs feature a dodecadron of Douglas Fir the stair
treads are of Walnut with Cherry tenons and accents;
the newel posts and balusters are of Black Walnut
the hand rails are of Cherry. |
|
 |
The second floor houses a library, setting
area and the home office. The walls and ceilings on the
second floor are dry-wall to contrast with the beauty of the
timber frame. The hardwood floors on this level are of
Arkansas Pine. Once a week Cabin Creek Timber
Frames hosts a 'jam session' where people can come play
their instruments or sing. The music is all acoustical.
Folk, blues, and bluegrass seem to be the preferences so
far. Visitors are welcome.
